Welcome to Alfred Buxton’s Gardens, a directory of gardens designed by Alfred Buxton originally compiled during research for my book The Fairer Side of Buxton: Alfred Buxton’s gardens and the women who loved them, and added to since the book was published and I’ve become aware of additional Buxton gardens. 

The information listed has been gathered from garden plans, A W Buxton & Co Ltd publications, advertisements, local histories and information from past and present Buxton garden owners. A few things to note:

• Included are the property’s name, location, who commissioned the garden and date if known
• If a property had a name at the time the garden was commissioned it is listed under that name with subsequent names (if known) listed after that
• If a property was unnamed it is listed under the name of the person who commissioned it

The directory is a living record, able to be expanded and amended.  If you have information to add, whether it be a garden or detail for a listed garden, please do let me know.
